No production studio has conceived more iconic cartoons, movies, and songs than Disney. From Mary Poppins to Simba, Disney characters have created legions of fans who treasure their creations and adore their theme parks. One such fan is Meg Kingsbury.
On her blog A Disney World Adventurer, Meg describes herself as being “a Canadian avid Disney enthusiast.” In her interview with The Flat Circle, Meg discusses her Disney fandom, which Disney VHS tape she wore out, and what Disney character she would want to be for a day. Meg has also been on six Disney vacations and has advice for travelers to the Magic Kingdom:
Flat Circle: What is the first Disney movie or cartoon that you remember watching?
Meg Kingsbury: The first Disney movie that I remember watching as a child was Aladdin, I used to be so obsessed with that movie that I wore the VHS tape out. The second that it was over, I would rewind it and watch it all over again! Needless to say, I was hooked at a young age!
FC: When did your love of Disney go beyond movies and television and extend to Disney theme parks?
MK: This may be a strange answer, but my love for Walt Disney World came about before I even got to travel there for the first time. As a child, I had quite a wild imagination. My mother had been to Walt Disney World a couple of times before I was born, and she would always describe “the most magical place on earth” to me, and how someday she would do everything that she could to take me there. She would describe the rides, the feelings and the magic that you felt while visiting. I was obsessed with the idea of it before I even got to see it with my own eyes. In 2004, I went to Walt Disney World for the first time, and it exceeded all of my expectations!
FC: How many times have you gone on a Disney vacation?
MK: I have gone on a Disney vacation six times, hopefully the seventh will be sometime soon! I wish I could say more than that, but I am unbelievably thankful that I get to go as often as I have.
FC: Do you have one place that you have to see every time you go to a Disney theme park?
MK: It’s so hard to just pick one place! I make sure do to all of the parks! But I would have to say the World Showcase in Epcot has always been one of my favorite things to do and explore!
FC: Why did you decide to start a blog and share your love of all thing Disney?
MK: A few years ago, I was planning a trip to Disney, and I watched hours of Disney vlogs on YouTube, and read a ridiculous amount of Disney Blogs. They always stuck with me as something that maybe someday I’d be brave enough to do! Finally, this year I had the courage to go for it. I figured, if others can do it, why can’t I? So, I finally started my blog, and felt that I had enough unique experiences at Walt Disney World now to help others by sharing my stories! Walt Disney World planning is so exciting, but also overwhelming as there’s lots to do and plan out, so I thought maybe my insight can help with this, and also be a great way to connect with others and hear about their experiences as well!
FC: What is some advice that you may have for people who are planning a Disney vacation for the first time?
MK: For someone who is planning a trip for the first time, I recommend to start planning early! Walt Disney World is an extremely popular vacation destination now, so planning is important so that you have Fast Passes for rides booked (who doesn’t want to skip lines?!) as well as dining reservations. Once you get there, my main bit of advice is to just enjoy yourself and be a kid again! Depending on the time of year it can be busy, but remember that you are in the happiest place on earth, and so many others would love to be able to be there!
FC: What is your favorite Disney movie?
MK: How do I pick just one? It’s so funny because I get asked this question quite often in my day to day life, and I always struggle with the answer! I absolutely love Disney movies! Of older movies I would have to say Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast, newer movies I absolutely am obsessed with Tangled, and I love Big Hero 6! But ask me tomorrow, and I might have others movies to add to that list as I can never keep a straight answer as I love them all so much.
MK: If you could be one Disney character for a day, who would you be?
FC: I would be Rapunzel from Tangled! I feel like I relate to her on way too many levels, as I’m a ridiculously bubbly person and a dreamer. She is so excitable, and the way she runs around free from her tower for the first time is basically me running around Walt Disney World!
