Last week I caught the end of a great new song as I was flipping from station to station on my way home from work. I had no idea what the rest of the track was, but its rush of guitars and anthemic reach made me want to listen to everything from this new band. Just like Milo Green last November, the last few notes of Starcrawler’s “Hollywood Ending” were enough to hook me.
It only takes a couple of notes to know what Hatchie is all about. The Australian artist has mastered the buoyant layers that make dream pop so enjoyable. Even though she has only dropped a half-dozen songs, the musician's breakout EP Sugar & Spice has marked her as an indie artist to watch in 2019.
When I left a screening of Creed 2 last week, I was thinking about the boxing movie's surprisingly layered story and did not expect to become immediately interested in another artistic endeavor. The catchy beats of Milo Greene’s “Move” were hard to miss when I started the car, even if it was just for the few notes.

Cramped quarters, the usual full day that it takes for my ears to pop, and lack of sleep will hamper any enjoyment of being on a plane. Before I set foot in an airport, I stock my phone with a special flying playlist to cope with airplane anxiety. A few songs always make their way onto the list.
Petal has recorded a cover of Tom Petty’s “You Got Lucky.” The band cut the single in a collaboration with Brooklyn artist Kevin Devine. In their version, Petal cut the signature synthesizer sound and decreased the tempo of the Long After Dark classic. I just binged my way through the first season of HBO’s Insecure. I had heard good things about the show. I did not anticipate how much I would love Insecure’s soundtrack. It took me forever to get through the first season because I keep googling the music in every episode. One song from the series blew me away: 1500 or Nothin’s “Girl.
